The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce submitted an open letter to Premier Wynne asking for consideration of business in the new minimum wage legislation.
The speed and magnitude of this legislation is alarming and raises further questions about the study and consideration that went into it.

Mayors Mobilize Over Great Lakes Restoration and Climate Change
Member mayors of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative met at their annual meeting and conference, hosted by outgoing Chair Mayor Denis Coderre, in Montreal.
Mayors of the Cities Initiative also asked the Canadian government to develop a more comprehensive strategy and framework for Great Lakes and St. Lawrence funding.

The City of St. Catharines is moving forward with a housing action plan to address affordable housing needs in the city.
On June 12 Council received a detailed report with 41 potential policy tools and actions the City can use to support affordable housing.

In celebration of World Accreditation Day, Technology Accreditation Canada presented Niagara College with a certificate recognizing national program accreditation for their Civil Engineering Technician program.
TAC accreditation involves a qualified, trained audit team evaluating Niagara’s program against the profession’s national standards.
Golf Classic in Support of Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara
On August 19, the 2nd Annual Advanced Chiropractic Classic will be held at Beechwood Golf and Country Club with proceeds going to the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara.
Registration includes 18 holes with cart, an on-course lunch, prime rib dinner, a golf shirt, and prizes.

Ontario’s Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs plan
The Changing Workplaces Review and resulting Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act has presented new and concerning challenges for our members and Ontario’s business community broadly.
The Keep Ontario Working group, a coalition of Ontario’s leading industry and sector associations as well as major employers, met on June 12 to discuss the next steps in this advocacy campaign.
Policy Report Card
The last year has seen a period of rejuvenation and accomplishment for the policy work of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
A new chapter began with the launch of a revitalized annual policy platform in the Ontario Economic Report, and the OCC also achieved a record number of policy wins on behalf of our 60,000 members in 135 communities across the province.
Working Towards Mental Health: A toolkit for employers
On July 11, the OCC will release Working Towards Mental Health: A Toolkit for Employers. This toolkit reveals the benefits for building a mentally healthy workplace and provides insight and resources for business of all sizes and sectors.
This toolkit follows the OCC’s Health Transofrmation Initiative to examine and recommend long-term, transformative solutions to health care in our province.
