GNCC announces new directors
Today, the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce (GNCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of seven Directors to their Board for a two-year term.
Colleen Fleming (C. Fleming and Associates Ltd.) and Marianne Tykolis-Casey (Stevensville Lawn Service, Stevensville Garden Gallery, Safari Niagara) will join Janice Arnoldi (Janice and Robin Communications), John Clark (M.T. Bellies), Brandon Currie (Sun Life Financial), Neil Thornton (The Thornton Group), and Ruth Unrau (Focus Coach) for the coming term.
St. Catharines listed 7th among top 35 cities to buy real estate
MoneySense Magazine has placed St. Catharines as one of the top 35 cities in Canada to invest in real estate.
With rising concerns about the real estate market and affordability from financial institutions and realtors, the list looks at healthy markets that are able to withstand a potential downturn.
Region moves ahead on transit
On March 24, Niagara took its next step toward an inter-municipal transit system.
Regional councillors endorsed a proposal by a transportation working group led by the mayors and CAOs of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland to consolidate transit systems in Niagara.

Ontario’s Fair Housing Plan
Yesterday, the Ontario government released a set of 16 comprehensive measures aimed at helping Ontarians find affordable homes and bring stability to the real estate market.
Ontario’s housing market has seen dynamic growth in recent years, with prices in the Greater Toronto Area and the Greater Golden Horseshoe rising significantly.
A big boost to business investment
Canada’s businesses are optimistic about increasing investments this year, but there is a big barrier that needs to be addressed.
Before any development project, such as a mine or road can begin, the Crown has a constitutional duty to consult with and accommodate Indigenous peoples whose rights could be affected. Governments often rely on industry to do these consultations as part of the regulatory approval process.
Canadian Chamber applauds new Canadian Free Trade Agreement
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce strongly applauds the new Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) announced by Canada’s federal and provincial governments. The CFTA, which will come into force on July 1, 2017, will allow for freer trade within Canada and start a process of eliminating regulatory barriers between provinces and territories.
This has been a long-standing demand of the Canadian Chamber, outlined most recently in its Ten Ways to Build a Canada that Wins 2017.
