After hearing from GNCC Policy & Government Relations Manager Hugo Chesshire at their meeting on June 27th, St. Catharines City Council voted unanimously to support the Peace Bridge pre-clearance initiative in Fort Erie. St. Catharines Councillor Mike Britton proposed a motion for St. Catharines to back this important initiative for international trade and commerce in Niagara after Council had received correspondence from the GNCC on the matter. Mayor Walter Sendzik remarked on the importance of the Peace Bridge and thinning the borders to Niagara’s economy, particularly in light of Niagara’s designation as a Foreign Trade Zone point. For more information on the initiative, see the GNCC’s original expression of support.
