2017 Niagara Economic Summit
Professor David Hutchison is a faculty member at Brock University, where he is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Humanities. David is Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities, which offers two interactive media programs – IASC and GAME – the latter in partnership with Niagara College and Brock’s Computer Science department.
In 2014, David spearheaded the development of the Brock University Design Studio (BUDS) (brocku.ca/buds) which brings students from different academic programs together in order to form collaborative project teams. In 2015, he launched EduProject.org, a K-20 knowledge mobilization portal for project-based learning. A certified project manager, David’s project-based teaching innovations have been recognized nationally. He is a 2016 recipient of the Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. He is the 2017 recipient of Brock’s Distinguished Teaching Award.
At the Summit, David will share his knowledge as an educator and an expert on the intersection of art and technology which is driving so much innovation and growth in the modern economy in fields such as videogame design, software engineering, social media and digital media production – and how Niagara can train its workforce and build itself to become a leader in the sector.
