GNCC to honour Niagara’s best in business and philanthropy

The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Niagara’s most outstanding business and community leaders on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Niagara Business Achievement Awards.

Four distinguished business and community leaders will receive bestowed awards at the 13th annual edition of the ceremony for their achievements in business and philanthropy within the community.


Robert WelchRob Welch, Partner at Lancaster, Brooks and Welch, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Walker Industries.
This award is presented to a businessperson who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to business success and community leadership.

Phil RitchiePhil Ritchie, President of Keefer Developments, has been named as Builder of the Year, sponsored by Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. This award is presented to a company that has had a historically significant impact on the economic prosperity of the community.

Doug SmithDoug Smith, Chair of Wise Guys Charity Fund and Advisor at C.R. Smith Financial Services Inc., is the Volunteer Business Person of the Year. This award is presented to an individual who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to helping build a stronger, more prosperous and vibrant community.

Suzanne JohnstonDr. Suzanne Johnston, President of Niagara Health System, will receive the Community Leadership Award, sponsored by Henley Honda.  This award recognizes an individual whose leadership has made a significant impact in the community.

“The four recipients of this year’s bestowed awards demonstrate the incredible diversity of Niagara’s business leaders,” said Mishka Balsom, President & CEO of the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce. “Their accomplishments in business and community building have been invaluable to the economic and social development of our community, and it is with pleasure that we present these awards to them in recognition of the significant, positive impact that they have made in Niagara.”

Thirty-three Niagara businesses are also finalists for eleven business achievement awards, including Outstanding New Business, Excellence in Manufacturing and Business of the Year.

The Niagara Business Achievement Awards will be presented on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Parkway Conference Centre.
