The Bank of Canada today reduced its target for the overnight rate to 4¼%, with the Bank Rate at 4½% and the deposit rate at 4¼%. The Bank cited economic growth of 2.1% in the second quarter as a factor in its decision, led by government spending and business investment. As expected, inflation slowed further to 2.5% in July, and with excess supply continuing to put downward pressure on inflation, the Bank hinted that further cuts may come depending on economic conditions.

Ontarians will soon be able to purchase alcohol at convenience stores across the province. New grocery store locations have also been added to the mix.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) opened its application process for new and existing convenience and grocery stores in Ontario to apply for alcohol retail licences on June 17.
Ontario invests $6M in craft cider marketing fund
The Ontario government is investing up to $6 million in the Ontario Craft Cider Marketing Fund over the next six years to help provincial craft cideries market their products to more consumers and stimulate growth across the sector.
Get involved in the development of West Lincoln’s Recreation and Parks Plan
The Township of West Lincoln is developing a Recreation and Parks Plan, which will provide a roadmap to enhance and grow the Township’s parks and recreation facilities, services and events. The Town invites residents and businesses to a workshop on Thursday, September 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the West Lincoln Public Library – Smithville Branch Program Room.

Outdoor artificial ice-skating loop proposed for Niagara Falls
Niagara Parks is planning to build an outdoor artificial ice-skating loop in Niagara Falls.
David Adames, chief executive officer for Niagara Parks, said the preferred site is north of the Floral Showhouse, where the “Whimsical Creatures” horticultural style of mosaiculture display was installed this year.
China fires back regarding EV tariffs with anti-dumping probe into Canadian canola imports
China has announced an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola imports in response to Canada planning to impose tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, steel and aluminum.
In a news release on Sep. 3, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it is launching an anti-discrimination investigation into the tariffs and an anti-dumping probe into Canadian canola imports as well as certain chemical products.
