Government of Canada stresses mutual benefits of trade in face of Trump tariffs
As President-Elect Trump vowed to enact a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, the Government of Canada sought to remind Americans that Canada buys more from the United States than China, Japan, France, and the UK combined.
“Addressing this threat is not just an economic challenge; it must be a national priority. The Ontario Chamber calls on the federal government to urgently address this escalating challenge with a united Team Canada approach,” said Ontario Chamber CEO Daniel Tisch.
St. Catharines council adds to mayor’s budget
St. Catharines city councillors have approved five amendments to the 2025 municipal budget, adding slightly to the 2.71 per cent tax hike that accompanied the spending plan tabled by Mayor Mat Siscoe on Nov. 6.
Ontario to grant job-protected parental leave for adoptive parents and parents through surrogacy
The Ontario government will soon introduce legislation that, if passed, will support families and help more women enter and remain in the skilled trades by creating a new job-protected parental leave for adoptive parents and parents through surrogacy. The government would also create a new 27-week job-protected leave for workers with serious illnesses and support women in the trades by requiring all sectors to have properly fitting personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) for women.
Ontario passed divisive legislation Monday that will prevent municipalities from adding certain new bike lanes and remove others on three main Toronto roads – a sign, the opposition says, that the premier is too focused on fighting Toronto battles instead of provincial ones.
Canopy Growth names new CEO
Canopy Growth names current board member and CPG-veteran, Luc Mongeau, as the next Chief Executive Officer effective January 6, 2025.
Mongeau has most recently served as the CEO of an e-commerce provider for residential and commercial furniture.
