Betty-Lou Souter to chair Hotel Dieu Shaver Board of Trustees
Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre is pleased to announce significant changes to its Board of Trustees’ leadership. Effective immediately, Betty-Lou Souter, the former 1st Vice Chair, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board. Anne Atkinson, who has admirably served as Chair since 2018, has completed her term and will continue to contribute as Past Chair. Additionally, Angela Carter has been appointed as the new 1st Vice Chair. Bob Lawler will continue to serve on the Board as the 2nd Vice Chair.

Town of Lincoln finalizes purchase of former Beamsville District Secondary School
The Town of Lincoln has announced the successful agreement to acquire the surplus property housing the former Beamsville District Secondary School (BDSS) site from the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) in June 2024. This milestone marks the culmination of extensive discussions between the Town and the DSBN, outlining the future for the historic and cherished site.

Ontario to invest over $200M in postsecondary infrastructure
The Ontario government is ensuring publicly assisted colleges and universities have modern facilities, learning tools and equipment so students develop the skills to succeed in the workforce through an investment of $201 million in 2023-24. Part of this investment requires postsecondary institutions to receive matching contributions from a private sector partner to help deliver the high-quality education and training to meet needs of employers.

Interprovincial trade in manufactured goods increased by 16.5% in 2022: StatCan
In 2022, the value of interprovincial trade in manufactured goods was $170.5 billion, according to new information published today by the Annual Survey of Manufacturing and Logging Industries—a 16.5% increase over 2021.
Quebec factories saw the biggest increase in the value of interprovincial sales, up $7.2 billion (+17.7%) in 2022, followed by Ontario (+13.6%) and Alberta (+13.9%).

Canadians less optimistic about finances amid worries about inflation, income: survey
A new survey says Canadians are feeling less optimistic about their finances, with respondents worried about inflation, income levels and a potential recession at the midpoint of the year.
TransUnion’s Canada consumer pulse study for the second quarter of 2024 found 57 per cent of Canadian households said their incomes are not keeping up with the current inflation rate, while 38 per cent expect payments for bills and loans to increase over the next three months.
