Government of Ontario directs province’s four largest agencies to spend 25% of advertising on Ontario publishers

The Minister of Finance, the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming have directed the largest four government agencies to allocate a minimum of 25 per cent of their annual advertising spending for Ontario publishers. These agencies are the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), the Ontario Cannabis Store, Metrolinx and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

Grape and Wine Festival to host Brunch by the Lake on July 7

The Grape and Wine Festival will host a morning of premium VQA wine, wine-based cocktails, and the return of the Brunch Battle 8 local culinary creators have paired with favourite Niagara wineries to create incredible brunch pairings.

Last year, more than 200 people attended the event. Executive director Dorian Anderson said as of last week 75 per cent of the 350 available tickets had been sold for Sunday’s competition.

Canadian trade deficit widens to $1.9B

In May, Canada’s merchandise exports decreased 2.6%, while imports were down 1.6%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $1.3 billion in April to $1.9 billion in May. This represents a third consecutive monthly deficit.

Ontario issues Request for Bids to construct EV charging infrastructure

The Ontario government has issued a Request for Bids to build and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in 15 new underserved and remote areas across the province.

The province is accepting applications to build and operate publicly accessible charging stations on government-owned property, including highway rest areas, carpool parking lots and tourist destinations such as Ontario Parks.

Ramaker’s Imports looking forward to 50th anniversary

Ramaker’s Imports Inc., which bills itself “Niagara’s first family-run Dutch shop,” next year will celebrate its 50th anniversary and 40th year operating out of a location on Ontario Street in St. Catharines.

In 1975, there already was a Dutch store located on Vine Street when Hendrik (Henry) Ramaker bought it, realizing a dream of working for no one other than himself after years of answering to someone else in the grocery industry with the former Dominion chain.

There is no grocery rebate in 2024, you can stop asking the CRA about it: Here’s what you need to know

Are you looking to find out if you’ll be getting another grocery rebate this year?

The answer is you’re not.

The Canada Revenue Agency reported on X, formerly Twitter, that it has been getting a lot of questions about the rebate for July 2024, but there is no such benefit this year.

Canadians struggle to plan for retirement as cost of living continues to climb: study

With mounting cost of living pressures, Canadians are struggling when it comes to planning and saving for retirement. A recent study done by the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) for Sun Life shows that one third of Canadians struggle to plan for retirement and that 75% of people say their cost of living is negatively impacting their retirement savings.

CEO leadership is crucial for success with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, according to a June 5 report from The Executive Leadership Council, meaning leaders must regularly communicate with workers about the links between DEI initiatives and business goals.
