Government of Ontario to introduce new regulations for post-secondary education
The Government of Ontario today announced that it plans on introducing a suite of measures to further regulate post-secondary education in the province. The planned measures will include the following:
- A review of postsecondary programs that have a sizeable amount of international students to ensure program quality.
- Ensuring that programs being offered are meeting the needs of the labour market.
- A moratorium on new public college-private partnerships.
- Measures to improve the response rate to student outcome surveys.
- Requiring all colleges and universities to have a guarantee that housing options are available for incoming international students.
NotL Council rejects staff recommendation, refuses to approve controversial King Street condo plan
Niagara-on-the-Lake council rejected the recommendations of its own planning staff Wednesday night, refusing to approve an unpopular King Street condo project proposed by Bice Builders.
Seven residents spoke against the staff recommendations to approve the plan, which would drop a three-storey, 17-unit condominium into a neighbourhood mostly comprised of single-family homes.
After two and a half hours of presentations and discussions, council voted 5-2 in favour of denying the project.
