NPCA celebrates 65 years in conservation, move to new HQ
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is proud to commemorate its 65th anniversary, marking six and a half decades of conservation efforts and environmental stewardship in the Niagara Peninsula watershed.
Since its inception in 1959, NPCA has played a vital role in conserving and restoring natural resources, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting sustainable development practices. As it reflects on the last 65 years of conservation work, NPCA is also embracing a new chapter with the relocation of its headquarters. Effective April 15, NPCA’s administrative office will be located at 3350 Merrittville Highway in Thorold.
BIA Car Show finds new home at Thorold Community Market
Building on the success of last year’s Thorold Community Market and the Thorold BIA Car Show, the City has decided to combine both popular events on the same day for the enjoyment of residents of all ages in our community.
Starting June 5, local farmers, vendors and artisans will participate in the Thorold Community Market that runs every Wednesday evening until September 4 with a special closing celebration on Saturday, September 14. This free community market from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. takes place at the Battle of Beaverdams Park on Sullivan Avenue.
Government of Canada announces new Canadian Internal Trade Data Hub
The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced the launch of the Canadian Internal Trade Data and Information Hub. The announcement was made at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s annual Hill Day, where Minister LeBlanc addressed business and trade association leaders.
Developed by Statistics Canada, in partnership with the Privy Council Office, the Hub responds to calls from the business and academic community for free, reliable and timely data.
Ontario adds 300 trips to GO train service across GTA
The Ontario government is moving ahead with the largest GO train service expansion in more than a decade, adding more than 300 trips per week on the Milton, Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Kitchener and Stouffville lines. The 15 per cent increase in weekly trips will give commuters more choice to get where they need to go faster.
Last year, the province added 12 round trips per week between Union Station and Niagara Falls to connect more people to jobs, housing and Canada’s top tourist destinations.
On Saturdays, starting April 27, the last train to and from Niagara Falls on the Lakeshore West line will depart an hour later. On weekdays, the last train to Niagara Falls will depart half an hour earlier.
Double-digit growth in electrical equipment, appliance and component sales leads February manufacturing bump
Canadian manufacturing sales increased 0.7% to $71.6 billion in February, on elevated sales in 13 of 21 subsectors, mainly driven by higher sales of petroleum and coal (+4.3%). Sales of electrical equipment, appliance and component products increased 12.6% from January to $1.5 billion in February, the highest on record. The electrical equipment industry group contributed the most to the monthly increase.
Meanwhile, the chemical subsector (-5.5%) recorded the largest decline.
Wholesale trade remained largely unchanged in February, Statistics Canada reports.
Technological advancements revolutionizing Canada’s grocery industry
Technological advancements are transforming how grocery stores and retailers work, from optimizing operations to improving customer satisfaction.
Stewart Samuel, IGD’s director of retail futures, has observed a change in perspective toward pragmatism, especially during COVID-19. Merchants now prioritize using technology to increase productivity and drive efficiencies.

Focus on Human Resources
Hybrid arrangements tripled since 2022, trend far from over, says Capterra
Nearly 70 per cent of Canadian hybrid workers go to the office two to three times a week, a new Capterra report that surveyed 1,021 part- and full-time employees working at least some days from the office has found.
The increased prevalence of hybrid work comes as companies like IBM, Amazon, Disney, Google, and even remote work poster child Zoom have vehemently pushed return to office (RTO) mandates.
Another report from Resume Builder also revealed that 91 per cent of companies will require employees to go to the office on a monthly basis, and 75 per cent will require employees to work from the office weekly.
