West Lincoln Appoints New Chief Administrative Officer
The Corporation of the Township of West Lincoln is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Beverly Hendry as their new Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. Hendry’s appointment is effective Monday, April 9, 2018.
Ms. Hendry joins West Lincoln from the City of Oshawa where she has served as the Commissioner of Corporate Services since 2014. Previously, Ms. Hendry spent nine years as the CAO of the Township of Scugog in Durham Region.
John Clark, Owner of M.T. Bellies, Receives Canada 150 Award for Business
Last Saturday, Canada recognized the members of our communities in Niagara Centre who have made an impact in the lives of others through work and volunteerism. Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey presented 75 citizens with Canada 150 community services awards at a ceremony at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre.
“This is a great day for recognizing the good people in our world,” Badawey said after the ceremony. “It is overwhelming, to say the least, it’s so heartening to hear about 75 individuals, one after another, and acknowledging the good work they do in their communities.”
Free Workshop Series + Community Dance Project
The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre is proud to provide enriching opportunities for local dance enthusiasts to engage with professional artists as part of the PAC partnership with Dora Mavor Moore Award-winning dancer and choreographer, Claudia Moore.
All members of the Niagara community are welcome to be part of the Older & Reckless Community Dance Project. In a process led by MOonhORsE Artistic Director, Claudia Moore and local amateurs will step on to the stage to experience what it’s like to create and perform for the public. This is a free program, with no dance experience necessary to participate!
Local Builders Finalists for Housing Excellence Awards
Three builders from St. Catharines have been recognized as finalists for their work by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) National Awards for Housing Excellence. The finalists include Windrush Hill Construction and Silvergate Homes, joining a prestigious list of builders from across the country selected by industry judges.
“It is always great to see local businesses recognized at a national level for industry-leading work. Congratulations,” said Mayor Walter Sendzik.
Buffalo Niagara Partnership Reiterates Support for Strengthening NAFTA
President Donald Trump has not been shy in criticizing the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement and reportedly again this week threatened to pull out of the country’s deal with Mexico and Canada.
“We really hope that the president in undertaking this renegotiation does no harm,” Buffalo Niagara Partnership, Vice President of Governmental Affairs, Grant Loomis said.

Ontario Must Pursue Bilateral Cooperation with American Neighbours
On February 20, Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, released a statement on the government’s legislation that would allow the Province to respond to “Buy American” laws enacted by American states.
“Positive diplomatic relations should always be our priority when it comes to trade discussions. With the Fairness in Procurement Act, we understand that the Government’s intention is to respond to barriers rather than escalate them,” said Rossi in his introduction.
Small Business Access Initiative Launched by Ontario
On February 12, the OCC and the Province of Ontario officially launched Small Business Access, a new initiative designed to provide information, resources and supports to help small businesses.
The OCC will lead the education and awareness campaign for the initiative and will host a series of workshops across the province to promote the programs and resources available for small businesses in Ontario.
Will Budget 2018 Help Win Back the Trust of Small Business?
Between last year’s tax fight and next year’s CPP hikes, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says this is the time for the Feds to get fairness right.
After an unprecedented outcry from the business community, the government began to recognize the potential harm its proposed tax changes for private corporations would bring. In October, it dropped one of the scariest provisions related to capital gains and reinstated its promise to lower the small business corporate tax rate to nine per cent — a policy endorsed by all major political parties.
