Mediation talks between Canada Post and union suspended

Negotiations have broken down between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for the first time since a countrywide strike began.

The federally appointed special mediator decided to temporarily suspend talks between the two sides today, Canada’s labour minister said in a statement posted on X Wednesday.

Ontario introduces sixth Working for Workers Act

Today, the Ontario government will introduce the Working for Workers Six Act, 2024, which would build on the previous five Working for Workers acts with a suite of proposed measures to strengthen OHSA enforcement, bring more people into the skilled trades and keep costs down for Ontario workers.

Governments announce available funding to enhance Ontario’s agri-food sector

The governments of Canada and Ontario are still accepting applications for 3 initiatives designed to enhance the province’s $50.7 billion agri-food sector through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).

Niagara-on-the-Lake to offer free parking in Old Town for December

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is once again pleased to offer free parking in the Heritage District (Old Town) throughout the month of December. This initiative, approved by Council at their November 26, 2024, Council Meeting, aims to encourage local shopping during the holiday season, create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, and enhance the festive spirit in our charming community.

Niagara College and Brock University sign articulation agreements

Niagara College (NC) recently signed three articulation agreements with Brock University, furthering its commitment to expanding educational opportunities for students. These agreements create pathways for NC diploma graduates in the fields of Child and Youth Studies, Accounting, and Dramatic Arts, enabling them to pursue further education at a degree level.

OPG’s 3D scanning program wins 2024 Centre of Excellence award

OPG’s 3D laser scanning initiative has been recognized by Electricity Canada with its 2024 Centre of Excellence award.

The prestigious award was presented to the company during Electricity Canada’s Powering Partnerships Conference in Toronto on Nov. 28.

Canadian General Government spending reaches a record high in 2023

Spending by the Canadian General Government (CGG)—that is, all levels of government including the federal, provincial, territorial, local and other government entities combined—reached its highest level in 2023 on a nominal basis. This marks the second time spending has surpassed the trillion-dollar threshold, following record spending of $1,049.3 billion in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Industry Minister asks premiers to ‘work together’ ahead of tariff meeting

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said on Nov. 27 that he’s confident all the premiers will get on board with a unified “Team Canada” approach to deal with Donald Trump’s tariff threat.

His confidence comes despite signs of early cracks in that unity ahead of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s emergency meeting with the premiers this afternoon.

Fewer people intend to buy an EV amid price, driving range concerns: EY report

A new survey finds fewer drivers intend to make their next car purchase an electric vehicle.An EY report shows overall intentions among respondents to buy a new vehicle were up six per cent compared with 2023, but fewer are interested in an EV.

Intentions to buy a fully electric vehicle within the next two years fell to 15 per cent this year, compared with 18 per cent in 2023, the report shows.

The top concerns survey respondents have are the limited driving range, the price tag of EVs, expensive battery replacements and a lack of charging infrastructure.
