Niagara Falls could seek World Health Organization age-friendly designation

Niagara Falls’ seniors advisory committee wants the municipality to pursue an official designation as an age-friendly city by World Health Organization.

Committee member Joe Szabo will make the case to city council Tuesday.

Last year, committee representatives presented an overview of that June’s Seniors Month activities. They also emphasized ongoing efforts to have Niagara Falls officially recognized as an age-friendly city.

Applications now open for FedDev business growth and AI projects

Today, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, announced that the fall intake is open for eligible small- and medium-sized businesses, and the organizations that support them, for projects that support business growth and artificial intelligence (AI).

Applications for all initiatives are being accepted until December 20, 2024. For more information and to apply, visit the FedDev Ontario website. Indigenous businesses and organizations are encouraged to contact the Agency’s dedicated team at 1-877-553-5507 or visit Funding and support for Indigenous businesses and organizations.

Police release safety guide in response to retail crime spike

In response to a rise in crime targeting the retail sector, the Toronto Police have partnered with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Retail Council of Canada and Workplace Safety and Prevention Services to launch a safety guide aimed at keeping businesses safe.

Government of Canada announces $4.3M in funding for green retrofits

Today, Parliamentary Secretary Julie Dabrusin, on behalf of the honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a federal investment totalling $4.3 million for five projects , funded under the Greener Neighbourhoods Pilot Program (GNPP) and the Energy Innovation Program (EIP), to support and inform deep energy retrofits.

Government of Ontario releases new energy agenda

Today, the Ontario government released Ontario’s Affordable Energy Future: The Pressing Case for More Power, outlining the challenges facing the province as demand for energy continues to rapidly grow, as well as the province’s path to managing this demand. The government also announced it would release the province’s first-ever Integrated Energy Plan with a generational horizon out to 2050.
