The Ontario government is investing $5 million annually to help smaller communities across the province build safe and reliable transit services. The funding is being delivered through the new Ontario Transit Investment Fund (OTIF), which will help municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations deliver transit services in unserved and underserved parts of the province, particularly in rural communities. It will support local and inter-community transit projects like bus service, on-demand shared rides and door-to-door transportation.
Applications for OTIF will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with programs expected to begin in 2025.
Enbridge partners with Microsoft to implement AI in operations
Enbridge is collaborating with Microsoft to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations, focusing on safety, emissions reduction, and asset optimization. The partnership has evolved over five years and is part of Enbridge’s broader digital transformation that began in 2020.
As part of this transformation, Enbridge migrated over 80 per cent of its workloads to the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, enhancing its computing and cybersecurity capabilities while reducing emissions from data centers.
Federal Court of Appeal ruling allows massive CN Rail hub to proceed
The Federal Court of Appeal has dismissed a challenge to the construction of a massive rail-and-truck hub in the Greater Toronto Area, allowing the project to proceed.
In a unanimous ruling Friday, a three-judge panel found that a decision by the federal government to let Canadian National Railway Co. build the terminal despite “significant adverse environmental effects” was reasonable.
