YMCA opens new Centre Of Community Impact at Fairview Mall
On July 25, the YMCA of Niagara celebrated the grand opening of its newest centre of community impact located within the Fairview Mall.
The opening of the Fairview Community hub marks a significant step forward in theYMCA’s efforts to foster community connections and promote lifelong learning and wellness. This YMCA location will continue expanding its programs and services, ensuring every community member can find the support they need, from financial literacy and resume coaching for newcomer youth to unique leadership programming.
“This is only the beginning,” said Deanna D’Elia, General Manager of Employment and Immigrant Services. “To unlock the limitless potential of those who pass through our doors, we are called upon to be bold and innovative in our programming to address gaps to meet community need.”

St. Catharines seeks feedback on proposed amendments to Community Improvement Plans
The City of St. Catharines wants to hear from residents on proposed amendments to the 2015 and 2020 Community Improvement Plans.
The amendments aim to provide flexibility in project completion deadlines and introduce new support measures for property improvements. Key elements of the amendments include extensions to allow for project completion deadlines to be extended for projects that have substantially progressed under the Tax Increment Finance and Brownfield Tax Increment Finance programs. Through the Housing Accelerator Fund, the City is also proposing the introduction of increased grants to support the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units.

University of Niagara Falls Canada launches job board to connect students with local employers
Career Services at the University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) has launched a new student job board, designed to connect local businesses and organizations with student job seekers. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between employers and students by offering a centralized platform where work opportunities can be easily accessed and applied for by current UNF students.
By focusing on the local job market, the job board is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the local economy while enhancing career development for students.
The UNF student job board is now live, and local businesses and organizations are encouraged to utilize this platform to promote their job openings.

Hudak leaving provincial real estate association
After seven years advocating for homeowners and affordable housing as chief executive officer of Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA), Tim Hudak announced this week he is leaving the organization Aug. 2.
Although Hudak, 56, would not reveal his future plans, he said in a statement he will be “tackling new adventures in the fall.”

Walmart Canada to raise hourly wages, invest more in technology for workers
Walmart Canada says it’s investing $53 million in higher wages for its hourly store employees.
Earlier this month, Walmart Canada raised the hourly wage for approximately 40,000 of its store associates. This investment is designed to ensure the retailer continues to provide attractive pay in the markets they operate.
