Niagara Geopark now a registered educational charity

Ten years of working toward a shared vision of a UNESCO designation is coming to a crest for the principals behind the Niagara Geopark this summer.

The non-profit organization recently passed a major milestone in its quest for official recognition with the United Nations agency when the Canada Revenue Agency granted the organization charitable educational status.

Government of Canada issues RFP for EV charger deployment across country

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, launched a new request for proposals (RFP) under the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). The RFP will support the deployment of EV chargers, including fast chargers, in public places across Canada such as highways and public lots. The RFP will also support the deployment of chargers at private locations, including multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces and where on-road vehicle fleets are serviced.

Applications will be accepted until September 19, 2024.

St. Catharines launches neighbourhood micro grants pilot project

Residents who wish to contribute positively to their communities through various events and activities can now apply for up to $1,500 in funding to support their initiatives.

The pilot project is designed to support community projects and events that will enhance the quality of life in St. Catharines’ neighbourhoods.

Cargo shipments on seaway system up at the end of May

Cargo shipped on the Great Lakes-Seaway system took an upswing in May compared to month before when it was down 8.85 per cent, says St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp.

Figures released last week showed cargo moved through the 3,700-kilometre-long waterway by the end of May was up 0.27 per cent compared to the same time last year.

Ontario Finance Minister calls for pause on federal Digital Services Tax

In a recent letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, Ontario’s Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy has urged the federal government to halt the implementation of a proposed Digital Services Tax.

The letter shows concerns over potential economic repercussions and the necessity to maintain a strong trade relationship with the United States.
