Niagara-on-the-Lake council has another opportunity to discuss White Oaks development

Niagara-on-the-Lake Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa said if his town council colleagues had simply talked to planning staff about the proposed four-tower, mixed-used development at White Oakes Resort and Spa, they could have avoided a confusing vote that rejected the application and left them scrambling to seek a meeting with the owner.

Ogena Solutions partners with Niagara College’s BCIC & HESIC to de-risk research and innovation

Ogena Solutions (Ogena) mission is a simple one: to safeguard animals, people, and the environment from pathogens and infectious diseases. However, to do that, Dave Hachey, President and founder of Ogena, knew he was going to need to engage technical experts to help him de-risk the commercialization process and have research to back up his product.

Dave was able to tap into the expertise of two of Niagara College Research & Innovation’s specializations – Business & Commercialization (BCIC) and Horticultural & Environmental Sciences (HESIC).

Immunity and Leniency programs updated to include wage-fixing and no-poaching agreements

The Competition Bureau and the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) issued updated Immunity and Leniency Programs today to include the Competition Act’s new wage-fixing and no-poaching provisions.

The new criminal conspiracy provisions, which came into force on June 23, 2023, prohibit companies from undermining competition by:

  • Agreeing to fix, maintain, decrease or control wages or other terms of employment; or
  • Agreeing to refrain from soliciting or hiring each other’s employees.

The Bureau and the PPSC have updated the programs to expand their application to wage-fixing and no poaching agreements.

Next Niagara-on-the-Lake CAO should be able to handle ‘chaos,’ councillors say

Niagara-on-the-Lake’s next chief administrative officer should understand the town isn’t like other municipalities.

“We may be a small municipality with a small team, but we have some big things happening,” said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa.

Zalepa, chairing council’s CAO recruitment committee meeting Monday, said a city manager should be able to “build a map for council to go” and realize its goals through its strategic plan.
