Kim received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto. Her research has been published in Feminist Formations, Journal of Gender Studies, Poetics, Sociological Forum, and Work and Occupations.
Kim researches the intersection of the sociologies of work and culture and how cultural mechanisms shape inequality and mediate uncertainty in organizational and mass media contexts. She has also examined how the cultural schemas underlying mass media representations serve to reproduce intersectional inequalities along lines of parental status, gender, race, and age.
