Today marks the Government of Ontario’s self-imposed deadline for the imposition of carbon tax pricing stickers as part of the Federal Carbon Tax Transparency Act, 2019. After today, gas stations across the country will have to display a sticker on each pump advising motorists of the costs of the federal carbon tax.
The GNCC is opposed to this requirement. Firstly, it is an additional regulatory burden upon businesses, and the penalties for non-compliance are disproportionately harsh. This is doubly jarring from a government that has pledged to reduce red tape for Ontario.
The GNCC is seeking a Graphic & Web Designer and a Sales/Admin Coordinator to support the fast-paced, high volume daily needs of the organization. These permanent, full-time positions will be an important part of the Chamber team.

Niagara Has Another Certified Living Wage Employer
Kudos are going out to Gillian’s Place, Niagara’s latest certified living wage employer.
The Niagara Poverty Reduction Network has bestowed the certification on the shelter for abused women and children for paying its 24 full-time and 18 part-time staffers a living wage calculated at $17.99 an hour.
A Brock University professor whose insightful analysis of local politics made him favourite with the media has retired, but is anything but retiring.
Dr. David Siegel started as a professor at Brock in 1978 in the political science department and forged a long and varied career in both academia and administration. “I’m enjoying being retired, and I am still staying busy,” he said.
Being prepared for the first day of school can make a huge difference to children. “They’re more ready to learn,” said United Way Niagara community impact director Tamara Coleman-Lawrie. “Showing up with supplies that your peer also has helps make them feel more welcome. They’re on a level playing field.”
But that isn’t always easy for parents when one in four Niagara children live in poverty, she added.
Niagara Parks Commission highlighted some of its environmental and cultural initiatives during a roundtable discussion with Ontario Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell. Dowdeswell visited Niagara Falls Monday, where she met with Mayor Jim Diodati.
After her visit, Dowdeswell tweeted her thanks to Diodati for a warm welcome to Niagara Falls and that she was “inspired” by the pride people have in stewarding nature and nurturing their community.
