We am delighted to announce TD as the recipient of the 2023 Business that Gives Back Award.
TD, a renowned financial institution with a history dating back to 1855, has shown that its commitment to people and community is an enduring legacy. Throughout its illustrious history, TD has evolved from a single-branch bank serving grain millers and merchants to a global financial services company that provides comprehensive financial solutions to individuals and businesses across the world. In the face of such growth and transformation, TD has steadfastly upheld its commitment to community and social responsibility.
Through the TD Ready Commitment, the institution is taking substantial steps to create opportunities and fund initiatives that support an inclusive future, where everyone has the chance to succeed. In 2022, TD made a monumental donation of $147 million to the non-profit and charitable sector, a significant stride toward its ambitious goal of reaching $1 billion in charitable giving by 2030. These contributions include investments aimed at empowering and supporting women entrepreneurs in the Niagara region.
One remarkable example of TD’s commitment to the community is their partnership with Niagara College. TD pledged $115,000 in sponsorship of the Sources for Self-Employment program from 2021 to 2022. This program serves as a “boot camp” for aspiring entrepreneurs, offering mentorship, coaching, and training to help individuals successfully launch and grow their businesses. Launched during the challenging times of COVID-19, this program played a pivotal role in assisting those whose employment opportunities were disproportionately affected by the pandemic, with a majority of participants being women. In the first cohort, 9 out of 10 participants were women. Participants who presented and received approval for their business plans became eligible for grants of up to $1,500, providing crucial support for those seeking to re-enter the workforce, especially during the ‘Shecovery’ period.
In 2019, TD’s Women in Enterprise (‘WE’) team was established with a mission to facilitate the success and growth of women-owned and women-led businesses. The ‘WE’ strategy focuses on workshops, networking, and mentorship opportunities that guide women on their financial journey. In a testament to TD’s commitment, they recently pledged $3,000 to the GNCC’s Women in Niagara (‘WIN’) Council in support of the WIN/WIN Peer Mentorship program set to return in October 2023. The program empowers and educates women on financial literacy, contributing to their financial independence and success.
Beyond financial contributions, TD encourages its employees to invest time, passion, and knowledge in their communities. The Niagara team, in particular, has been incredibly active in supporting local charitable initiatives. From organizing food drives and assembling mental health self-care packages to fundraising for local women’s shelters and providing support for mental health agencies, TD’s Niagara team has exhibited unwavering dedication to helping those in need.
