11th Annual Community Care Downtown Chili Cook Off

On Friday, March 3, 2017 from 11-2:00 pm in Market Square downtown St. Catharines fill up and feel good by supporting Community Care at the Downtown Chili Cook Off.

This year the 11th Annual Chili Cook Off will host 13 chili vendors and feature chili’s ranging from traditional style to vegan style chili! New teams and returning champions vie for awards and bragging rights that last all year long.

Tickets are sold at the door and include 10 samples of chili and voting ballots. Guests vote to help their favorite chili win 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the People’s Choice category. A panel of judges, including St. Catharines dignitaries and community personalities weigh in on their favorites through a blind tasting announced at the end of the event along with People’s Choice winner, best over-all winner and best booth with most enthusiastic vendor.

Also joining us is Oast House Brewery serving samples of their sensational suds and live music will fill Market Square with sweet sounds.

Tickets are $10 with 100% of the proceeds used to facilitate the programs and services provided by Community Care supporting St. Catharines and Thorold.

Community Care 2016 FAST FACTS

1 can of donated food is one can of food we did not have the day before
13 percent of the population of St. Catharines will access our food services
40 percent of our food bank clients are children and youth (under 18)
100 young people, 16-24 years of age, were helped through Housing Help per month. They were either homeless or at imminent risk of being homeless. 58% were female
1,000 children received back to school support through Snacks ‘n Sneakers Program
1,850 households access food security each month
4,000 pounds of food is distributed daily, 5 days a week
11,200 individuals registered for Christmas services-this does not include those seeking food and shelter services
17,000 students are fed each school day through Niagara Nutrition Partners throughout the Niagara Region
