Kyle Tkachuk is the Founder and CEO of Clickback, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company located in St. Catharines, Ontario. Through his leadership, Clickback has grown seven-fold over the last 5 years, which led to the company being ranked #106 on the 29th Annual PROFIT 500 List of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies and ranked #32 in the software category by Canadian Business in 2017.

Kyle founded the parent company in 1996, then founded Clickback in 2000 and quickly grew its software offerings into sought-after B2B lead generation solutions that materially benefit his clients and, in turn, help them aggressively grow their business. He’s actively focused on helping B2B businesses achieve their sales and marketing goals by accelerating their lead and revenue growth. It is through Kyle’s leadership that he has grown Clickback from a 5-person team to over 30.

As a local innovator who has turned technology into a successful business, and as both an innovator and an entrepreneur, Kyle will join the Summit’s panel on accelerating innovation for jobs and growth. Speaker Profile: Len Diplock

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Leonard (Len) Diplock is Canada Post’s Senior Vice-President of Strategy and Corporate Marketing. Len leads the design and development of the Corporation’s strategy, planning and development activities with responsibility for driving the Canada Post Group of Companies towards sustainable growth and profitability. He also leads the Corporation’s data and analytics group and oversees corporate marketing and brand management to optimize Canada Post’s profile in the market.

Len is a seasoned executive with more than 17 years in corporate strategy, development and leadership roles. Prior to joining Canada Post in April 2016, he held a number of senior executive positions at Direct Energy, most recently serving as Vice-President, Corporate Development. Before joining Direct Energy, he was a corporate strategist with Centrica and a management consultant with Bain & Company.

At the 2017 Economic Summit, Len will deliver the power talk for the panel discussion on transformative change and the next 150 years. As an institution that has existed for the last 150 years of Canadian history, Canada Post has seen and adapted to enormous changes in its lifetime. Canada Post has remained important and relevant for a century and a half, and in his talk, Len will reveal some of the secrets behind that, where the corporation will go in the future, and how we can all build prosperity that lasts for 150 years.

Speaker Profile: Dr. Marc Nantel

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Dr. Marc Nantel is Associate Vice-President of Research & Innovation at Niagara College, and oversees all aspects of applied research at the college, which focus on the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre, the Canadian Food & Wine Institute Innovation Centre, the Agriculture & Environmental Technologies Innovation Centre, and Business & Commercialization Solutions.  He took this position in 2011, after 13 years with the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), where he ended up Director of Research, Commercialization and Talent Programs, and also oversaw OCE’s nanotechnology and advanced health technologies interests.

After obtaining his Ph.D. in Plasma Physics in 1994, Marc spent 4 years at the Université de Paris-Sud and the University of Michigan. He was an Adjunct Professor of Physics at the University of Toronto from 1998 to 2008.

Marc co-founded several organizations, including the Ontario Photonics Technologies Industry Cluster (OPTIC) in 1999, the Ontario Photonics Education and Training Association (OPETA) in 2001, the Science and Technology Awareness Network (STAN) in 2002, and NanoOntario in 2010. Marc is currently the Chair of the Heads of Applied Research for all 24 Ontario colleges, and a member of Colleges & Institutes Canada’s National Research Advisory Committee.

Marc will join the panel on transformational change and the next 150 years at the Summit. As a researcher and coordinator in high technology, his knowledge of trends for both the immediate and far future will be applied to the question of building Niagara’s long-term prosperity.

Speaker Profile: Dave Robitaille

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Dave Robitaille is Director of Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs at IBM Canada. Dave joined IBM in early 1990, building his career in the Supply Chain Management discipline, and in 2007, Dave moved to lead IBM Canada’s Corporate Citizenship organization. In this dynamic and challenging executive role, Dave is responsible for IBM Canada’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and community relations, and works in a dynamic executive team focused on IBM’s public and government relations, indigenous affairs, and innovation strategy.

Dave is an ambassador for IBM both internally and externally, and a champion for advancing the dialogue among leaders in both the public and private sectors. A featured speaker at economic and community planning summits across Canada, Dave lives with his wife in St. Catharines, Ontario, and works on the board of directors of several charitable organizations, including as President and Chair of the Education Foundation of Niagara.

Since its founding over a hundred years ago, IBM has been a world leader in developing and marketing the technology that has driven the greatest increase in business and economic productivity in human history. Speaker Profile: Rashmi Biswas

Rashmi Biswas is the Executive Vice President with Lake and Associates Canada where she works with private and public sector clients specializing in leadership development, team effectiveness, and process facilitation. Rashmi is an Instructor with the Centre for Innovation, Management and Enterprise Education, The Goodman School of Business, Brock University, a program Facilitator with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, and she is the author of the motivational book “Rash Decisions: Accept Where You Are, And Then…Be Amazing.”

Rashmi has successfully led large teams, held profit and loss accountability, and gained extensive business experience within corporate and academic arenas in Canada, the USA and the UK. Rashmi specializes in leadership development, team performance and process facilitation. Rashmi holds a Masters degree in Human Resource Management, from Sheffield Hallam University; a BSc (HONS) in Hotel and Catering Management, from Manchester Metropolitan University; and a Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Education, Facilitation and Training from the University of Teesside.

As an expert in development in management and leadership, Rashmi will join the Summit panel on accelerating innovation for jobs and growth. Human capital is the most important aspect of any successful business, and Rashmi’s insights into innovations and developments in developing and managing human capital are a must for any business-owner.

Speaker Profile: Tom Rankin

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Tom Rankin has been in the construction and engineering business since 1962 and his firm, Rankin Construction Inc., now undertakes more than one hundred million dollars in heavy civil construction projects a year. Rankin Construction is one of the largest contractors in the Niagara Peninsula, and Tom is also the CEO and founder of Decew Construction and Rankin Renewable Energy.

Rankin has completed more than a dozen renewable energy projects in Ontario, including wind farms and hydro stations across the province. The firm has also worked on sites such as the Niagara Health System’s new hospital, the Bruce Nuclear Station, the QEW, the Welland Canal, and the Queenston Plaza of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission.

At the Summit, Tom will share his thoughts on the future of renewable energy and infrastructure from the perspective of someone who has spent decades designing and building that infrastructure. His first-hand knowledge will add a practical dimension to the common questions around renewable energy and the building and maintenance of our infrastructure.

Speaker Profile: Dr. David Hutchison

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Professor David Hutchison is a faculty member at Brock University, where he is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Humanities. David is Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities, which offers two interactive media programs – IASC and GAME – the latter in partnership with Niagara College and Brock’s Computer Science department.

In 2014, David spearheaded the development of the Brock University Design Studio (BUDS) (brocku.ca/buds) which brings students from different academic programs together in order to form collaborative project teams. In 2015, he launched EduProject.org, a K-20 knowledge mobilization portal for project-based learning. A certified project manager, David’s project-based teaching innovations have been recognized nationally. He is a 2016 recipient of the Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. He is the 2017 recipient of Brock’s Distinguished Teaching Award.

At the Summit, David will share his knowledge as an educator and an expert on the intersection of art and technology which is driving so much innovation and growth in the modern economy in fields such as videogame design, software engineering, social media and digital media production – and how Niagara can train its workforce and build itself to become a leader in the sector.

Dean Wood founded Borderworx in 2003. From his extensive industry experience working with Canada’s largest transportation and customs corporations, Dean established a number of solutions for the logistics industry that have helped many companies grow their market share. To date, Borderworx has managed more than $3 billion in goods across the border and more than 100,000 customs clearances.

Speaker Profile: Brock Dickinson

2017 Niagara Economic Summit

Brock Dickinson is the new “Entrepreneur in Residence” with the University of Waterloo. In this role, Brock works with students and faculty to help launch new entrepreneurial ventures and commercialize emerging research, to support the development of new incubation and business acceleration facilities, and to coordinate the University’s links with the United Nations on development issues.

Prior to joining the University, Brock was the Chief Executive Officer of MDB Insight, Canada’s largest specialist economic development consultancy, and he continue to serve as a strategic advisor to the firm. In September of 2010, the company was named to Profit Magazine’s “Hot 50” list of Canada’s fastest growing young companies.

Before entering the field of local economic development, Brock spent six years as a consultant with the United Nations, coordinating development projects in more than 30 countries.  In 1995, he was appointed Secretary-General of a UN development conference, the youngest Secretary-General in UN history.

At the Summit, Brock will join our panel on international trade in the age of uncertainty. From his dual background as an entrepreneur and as an expert in international relations and development, he will offer his perspective on the future of our trade relationships and how Niagara can navigate a precarious international regime.
