The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce (GNCC) is pleased to see the Ontario government’s introduction of the Protect Ontario through Free Trade within Canada Act. This new legislation is a welcome move to reduce interprovincial trade barriers and make it easier for Ontario businesses to operate and grow across the country.
The GNCC has long advocated for reforms that modernize internal trade and improve labour mobility. This Act addresses those priorities directly by simplifying regulatory requirements and aligning certification standards with other provinces. Businesses in Niagara and throughout Ontario stand to benefit from a more open and competitive Canadian market.
“This legislation is a practical and timely step that will help our members find the talent they need, grow their operations, and compete more effectively nationwide,” said GNCC President & CEO Mishka Balsom. “We applaud the province for its leadership, and we’re encouraged to see Ontario taking concrete action under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement.”
