Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce

Engage: Refresh Your Resume, Sell Your Skills

In this session, attendees will understand the purpose of the resume, and how to develop a document that highlights their skills, talents and impacts, not just a work history that focusses on their responsibilities. Best practices around how to format bullet points, how to tailor a resume to the desired position, and common errors to avoid, will be reviewed. This session will also be useful for anyone making a career transition or seeking a position in a new field.

Speaker:

Kristen Nilsen
Experiential Education Coordinator, Brock University

Kristen has spent much of her career working in higher education, supported by an academic background in Human Resources and Leadership in Education, currently working as an Experiential Education Coordinator at Brock University. These experiences have consistently had a student-centered approach, which collided with her HR background when she began working as a Career Coach in 2017. Her coaching philosophy focusses on providing clients with the tools to be successful and empowering them to maneuver the job search process confidently, in relevant and relatable ways. During the pandemic, in addition to her day job, she co-founded The Career Shop to provide personalized career coaching to clients who may be established in their careers but are now looking for new opportunities.
