Niagara unemployment rate falls as province, country move in opposite direction

Niagara’s unemployment rate has fallen from 8% in July to 7.5% in August, the latest data from Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey have shown. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate rose from 6.8% to 7% in the same period, while Canada’s increased 0.2 percentage points to 6.5%. Niagara’s participation rate fell slightly while employment stayed the same, indicating that this drop could have been caused by people leaving the workforce.

Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the Honourable Vic Fedeli, acknowledged that employment in Ontario dipped last month, but reminded observers that the province has added more than 150,000 jobs so far this year.

In early August, Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath proposed so-called “sanctioned encampments” to help centralize people experiencing homelessness, allowing for timely access to services, while utilizing city-owned properties to move people out of parks.

Focus on Technology

I’ve led multiple tech businesses. This is the biggest mistake startup leaders make

In my years as a CEO and board member, I’ve witnessed firsthand how the path to a thriving startup can be precariously narrow. The difference between a “unicorn”—a startup that achieves a billion-dollar valuation—and a “unicorpse”—one that secured massive investments only to stumble when growth stagnated—often hinges on one crucial factor: people. It’s not the flashy, artificial valuations or the groundbreaking technology that defines long-term success; it’s the team you build, the culture you foster, and the purpose that unifies them.
