What to know as Stellantis moves some auto jobs to the U.S. from Canada

Stellantis announced on Tuesday plans to move some production out of Brampton, Ont., to the United States, a move union leaders say is sacrificing Canadian jobs “on the Trump altar.”

The news comes amid the ongoing trade war, with U.S. tariff policies imposed by President Donald Trump directly impacting Canada’s manufacturing sector — especially for automotive assembly and parts manufacturing.

Ontario colleges and full-time support staff have reached a tentative agreement, ending a five-week strike at Ontario’s 24 colleges.

A weekend-long private mediation session with Mediator William Kaplan broke a bargaining impasse, leading to a tentative settlement between the College Employer Council (CEC), representing Ontario colleges, and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), representing the 10,000 striking employees.

Lincoln seeks local businesses to become Tree Champions

To support its goal of planting 1,200 trees in 2025, businesses that participate in Lincoln’s tree planting program will be celebrated as “Tree Champions” on the Town of Lincoln website.

As part of this effort, the Town of Lincoln is hosting a Tree Sale for local Lincoln Businesses. Trees cost $10.00 + tax and must be purchased in advance. Orders close on October 23 or when trees sell out.

Goodman to hold symposium on Global Trade in Transition

Canada is faced with confronting a new and evolving international trade environment. This will require a coordinated approach by government and business leaders to adapt to changing circumstances. This year Brock University’s CPA Centre symposium will examine Canada’s strategic response to these challenges. The full-day event will feature presenters from academia, government, Andrew Peller Ltd., Canadian manufacturers & Exporting, Canadian Vehicles Manufacturers Association, and a keynote address from the president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association.

Cogeco rolls mobile service out to 350 new municipalities, including Niagara

Cogeco Communications announced today a significant rollout of its mobile service, now offering mobility to the majority of its customers across Québec and Ontario in municipalities such as Niagara, Drummondville, Hamilton, Kingston, Shawinigan, Windsor and Burlington.

Manufacturing, wholesale, and car sales see late-summer dip

Total manufacturing sales fell 1.0% to $69.4 billion in August, on lower sales in 12 of the 21 subsectors, led by the transportation equipment (-5.7%) and food (-1.9%) subsectors. Wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) also declined 1.2% to $85.4 billion in August.

There were 167,017 new motor vehicles sold in Canada in August, increasing 0.5% from August 2024. In dollar terms, sales decreased 1.7% in August 2025.

Salesforce, Stripe, and OpenAI partner to power instant checkout

Salesforce has announced a strategic partnership with Stripe and OpenAI to launch an Instant Checkout integration built on the new Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). The collaboration, unveiled today, will redefine how merchants engage with customers by leveraging conversational AI to streamline the path to purchase and create intelligent, frictionless shopping experiences.

Focus on Climate

The federal government is facing pressure from all sides to fix its policy that imposes a minimum electric vehicle (EV) sales requirement on automakers.

The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association (CVMA), a lobby group for three United States automakers with operations in Canada, launched a campaign and petition on Monday calling for the government to scrap the policy outright.

But on Tuesday, 40 EV industry executives signed an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney asking him to “stay the course,” but make “reasonable adjustments” to EV sales requirements.
