Ontario’s first flying theatre experience to debut in Niagara

Niagara’s newest must-see attraction will open its doors to visitors on August 29. Niagara Takes Flight is Ontario’s first flying theatre experience, featuring a massive, 180-degree domed screen that invites guests to soar above the region’s most iconic landscapes and get closer than ever to Niagara Falls.

PM Carney unveils cabinet with two dozen new ministers

Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, announced the members of Canada’s new Ministry. There are several returning longtime ministers from Trudeau’s cabinet, including François-Philippe Champagne, Dominic LeBlanc, Melanie Joly, Steven MacKinnon, Steven Guilbeault and Chrystia Freeland, while others are new, including several elected to Parliament for the first time in 2025.

Ontario permanently cutting Gas Tax and taking tolls off Highway 407 East

The government of Ontario is enacting a plan to permanently cut the gasoline and fuel tax rates, which would save households, on average, about $115 per year going forward. The government is also proposing to remove tolls from the provincially owned Highway 407 East, which is expected to save daily commuters an estimated $7,200 annually.

Port Colborne to hold open houses on ward boundary review

The City of Port Colborne is hosting two open houses on May 14 & 15 to gather information from residents regarding the number of Councillors in Port Colborne and where ward boundaries should be drawn. Honda has postponed a $15-billion electric vehicle project in Ontario citing market demand.

It marks the biggest project delay yet in Canada blamed on the weakened outlook for EV sales, which has been made all the more uncertain because of actions by the Trump administration.

Asahi Kasei Corp. said that the planned start of operations at the Port Colborne battery separator plant in 2027 remains unchanged, and they expect this change to have minimal impact on operations.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum becomes latest Living Landmark

The Niagara Foundation has honoured Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum with its 2025 Living Landmark award. The annual award recognizes a person or group “demonstrating an outstanding contribution to quality of life in Niagara.”

Focus on Markets

Nissan is slashing about 15% of its global work force, or about 20,000 employees, as the Japanese automaker reported a loss Tuesday for the fiscal year that just ended amid slipping vehicle sales in China and other nations, and towering restructuring costs.

Nissan Motor Corp. said it will reduce the number of its auto plants to 10 from 17, under what it called its recovery plan to carry out “decisive and bold actions to enhance performance and create a leaner, more resilient business that adapts quickly to market changes.” It did not say which plants were being closed but confirmed the closures will include factories in Japan.
