Gas prices dropping in Niagara and Hamilton overnight

Gas prices are expected to drop by about 13 cents tomorrow.

According to Gas Wizard, the price of a litre of regular gas will drop to 162.9 tomorrow, and diesel will also drop 20 cents overnight.

Stormwater concerns raised as councillors vote to lift hold on St. Davids subdivision

What should come first — approving new development or making sure the stormwater system can handle it?

That question surfaced at Niagara-on-the-Lake council as councillors debated lifting a hold on the proposed Tawny Ridge Estates Phase 2 subdivision in St. Davids before ultimately voting to move the project forward during their March 10 meeting.

Government of Canada raises the federal minimum wage

Today, the Government of Canada announced that, starting April 1, 2026, the federal minimum wage will rise to $18.15 per hour. This represents a total cumulative increase of 21% since the introduction of the standalone federal minimum wage in 2021.

This measure only affects the federally regulated sector.

Early indicators show manufacturing sales uptick in February

Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales increased 3.8% in February. The largest increases were in the transportation equipment and food subsectors.

ClimateFirst report quantifies ROI on climate resilience for multi-residential buildings

As climate‑driven disasters become more frequent, many building owners still lack a clear roadmap for which resilience measures to pursue — or whether those investments will pay off.

A recent study on the impacts of climate change on an identical multi-family residential building model in nine U.S. and three Canadian cities reveals some surprising findings: the right investments in resilience can result in significant monetary returns.

Focus on International Trade

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem spelled out the dual impacts of soaring oil prices for the national economy, explaining that pricier barrels of crude linked to the war in the Middle East are hitting businesses and consumers at the fuel pumps, while padding the coffers of commodity producers.

According to new analysis, Canada could lift its “struggling” gross domestic product by $31.4 billion per year over the next decade by boosting oil export infrastructure by about one-third, or 1.5 million barrels per day. The joint study by Studio.Energy and ATB Financial’s economics team published on Wednesday says this would translate to a 1.1 per cent increase in Canada’s real GDP, and create 112,000 jobs over 10 years.
