Grimsby to cover recycling cost for 49 downtown businesses and organizations
The Town of Grimsby will cover the cost of recycling next year for some downtown businesses and other organizations.
Grimsby councillors agreed on Monday to spend $44,374 to cover the cost of once-a-week pickup of blue box materials from 49 non-residential properties in the downtown area that are known as noneligible sources (NES).

Metrolinx announces upcoming GO train service interruptions on Lakeshore West line
On the weekends of Dec. 6 – 7, 13 – 14 and 20 – 21, planned construction is taking place on Lakeshore West for future, frequent service and to replace the Etobicoke Creek bridge. Services will be interrupted between Burlington and Exhibition; alternate transit options are available.

Niagara-on-the-Lake corrects misinformation being spread concerning Royal George Theatre
In reaction to recent misinformation circulating about the Royal George Theatre planning application, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has issued a statement that Council did not waive, reduce, or eliminate any required parking fees for the Royal George Theatre. The redevelopment necessitates one additional parking space, and, consistent with Town policy, the Shaw will pay cash in lieu of that space at the time of the Site Plan Agreement.

Highway 407 toll rates increasing in 2026
Driving on Highway 407 ETR will become more expensive in the new year, as toll rates are increasing starting on Jan. 1.
“We’re balancing our commitment to keep traffic free flowing for customers while fulfilling our mandate to relieve congestion on the rest of the transportation network,” 407 ETR president and CEO Jose Espinosa said in a news release.

Final structural concrete pour marks major milestone for South Niagara Hospital
The South Niagara Hospital Project continues to achieve another major milestone. Crews have completed the final structural concrete pour- a significant step towards completion of the superstructure work on the 12-storey building. The hospital is now only a few months away from raising the final structural beam.

Alectra helping customers cut electricity costs with Save on Energy programs
Alectra Utilities is partnering with Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to help deliver Save on Energy conservation programs. The programs offer residential, commercial, and industrial customers opportunities to manage electricity use, reduce peak demand, and support a more reliable electricity grid, saving money on their bills and reducing overall system costs.

Office-to-residential conversions break out in 2025
Few construction trends gained as much traction across Canada and the United States this past year as office-to-residential conversions.
In the United States, the number of conversions underway skyrocketed from 23,100 units in 2022 to over 70,000 units at the start of 2025, according to a report published by RentCafe.

Canadian labour productivity rebounds in Q3
Labour productivity of Canadian businesses rebounded in the third quarter, increasing 0.9% after a 1.0% decline in the second quarter and no change in the first quarter. This was the sixth quarterly increase in eight quarters.

The Ontario government has launched a new working group to guide the implementation of the Advanced Wood Construction Action Plan: Ontario’s blueprint for education, research and investment in the fast-growing sector of prefabricated and modular wood-based building materials, known as advanced wood construction.

Air Transat pilots vote to strike if new contract with the airline can’t be reached
Air Transat pilots have voted to strike if their union is unable to reach a new contract with the airline.
The Air Line Pilots Association said Wednesday the pilots voted 99 per cent in favour of a strike if necessary as 98 per cent of eligible pilots voted.

Government sending early retirement info to roughly 68,000 public servants
The federal government is in the process of sending information on its planned early retirement program to almost 70,000 employees as it works to reduce the size of the public service.
Mohammad Kamal, director of communications for the Office of the President of the Treasury Board, says letters are being sent to roughly 68,000 public servants who may be eligible for the program.
