Town of Grimsby shares key update on Downtown Reimagined project timeline

The Town of Grimsby is providing an important update on the Downtown Reimagined Project, following recent discussions with members of the downtown business community.

Based on what the Town has heard from businesses, residents, and stakeholders – and with a shared focus on supporting a successful outcome for downtown commerce and the broader community – the Town has made a decision to adjust the project schedule.

Ontario and New York sign agreement to build nuclear energy and grow economies

Today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed an agreement to work together to advance the development of affordable, reliable and clean nuclear power. As part of this agreement, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will leverage Ontario’s global nuclear leadership to advance the development and deployment of nuclear technologies, including large-scale reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs), to meet the growing electricity demand and protect long-term energy security.

Ford defends Skills Development Fund in wake of ethics probe of labour minister

Premier Doug Ford defended the province’s Skills Development Fund Friday in wake of a newly launched ethics investigation into Labour Minister David Piccini’s dealings of that fund.

Ontario Integrity Commissioner Cathryn Motherwell opened a probe into Piccini after the provincial Liberals and New Democrats alleged he breached ethics rules in handing out skills training funding.

Government of Canada launches engagement to strengthen industrial carbon pricing

Today, Environment and Climate Change Canada launched engagement on changes to the minimum national stringency standards for industrial carbon pricing, known as the federal benchmark criteria. Feedback received will help inform changes to the federal benchmark in 2026 to ensure that all industrial carbon pricing systems in Canada drive emission reductions and provide certainty for investments in decarbonization while enabling our companies to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

Retail trade falls in October, but advance figures indicate increase in November

Retail sales decreased 0.2% to $69.4 billion in October. Sales were down in four of nine subsectors, led by decreases at food and beverage retailers.

Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of retail sales, which suggests that sales increased 1.2% in November. Owing to its early nature, this figure will be revised.

Martin Baccardax, senior writer at Barron’s, says AI stocks will be a driving force for US markets in 2026. About 10 stocks account for roughly 50% of this year’s S&P 500 gains. Baccardax also credits them with helping to keep the US economy out of recession.
