Ontario bringing back year-round weekend GO rail service to Niagara

Premier Doug Ford was in Niagara Falls today, announcing that the Ontario government is bringing back year-round weekend GO rail service between Union Station and Niagara Falls, beyond the previous seasonal end date of October 15, 2022. The service will include two round trips each day, offering travellers a more direct journey between downtown Toronto and Niagara Falls.

Originally introduced in 2019, the weekend service was suspended due to unprecedented drops in ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Launching the Net-Zero Challenge to recognize and support businesses transitioning to cleaner operations

Businesses across Canada are developing cleaner ways of doing business not just to reduce harmful emissions, but also to be more resilient and competitive in the 21st century economy.

Today, the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announced the launch of the Net-Zero Challenge, a new national voluntary initiative for businesses operating in Canada. Businesses that join the Challenge commit to developing and implementing credible and effective plans to transition their facilities and operations to net-zero emissions by 2050.

Minister Guilbeault announced a number of founding participants that have joined Canada’s Net-Zero Challenge, among them the Cement Association of Canada and General Motors of Canada and Loblaws Company.

Ontario COVID-19 Science Table to be dissolved 

Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, which has provided guidance and advice to the government and public throughout most of the pandemic, said today that it is being dissolved as of September 06, 2022.

A statement from Public Health Ontario suggests it is looking at forming a new group, saying it has been engaged in discussions with science table representatives over the last few weeks over new terms of reference.
