Ontario to invest $1.6 Billion in Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program
Today, Premier Doug Ford announced at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference that the Ontario government will invest an additional $1.6 billion to speed up construction on homes and critical infrastructure. This investment nearly doubles the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP) to $4 billion, building on the province’s most recent $400 million increase in the 2025 provincial budget.

University of Niagara Falls Canada expands global reach with new strategic partnerships
The University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) continues to expand academic opportunities for its students with the recent signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prestigious higher education institutions in Mexico and Poland.
Signed earlier this summer, the MoUs set up the framework for collaborative partnerships with Vistula University (VU) in Poland and Universidad del Valle Atemajac (UNIVA) in Mexico.

157-unit townhouse development eyed for Smithville
A residential area in northeast Smithville could be in for a mini population boom if a proposed 157-unit townhouse development is approved by West Lincoln council.
Phelps Homes is looking to build 13 freehold townhouse units in three separate building blocks, plus 144 stacked townhouse condo units and a four-storey mixed-use building in nine blocks on the former College Street Public School land.

Air Canada flight attendants’ union asks federal court to pause back-to-work order
The union representing striking Air Canada flight attendants is requesting an injunction to block a controversial back-to-work order from the federal labour board.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees filed an application on Monday asking the Federal Court to rule that the Liberal government’s decision to direct the board to disband the strike is unconstitutional.

Canadian lenders are expanding credit limits for cardholders — including those in higher-risk categories — even as repayment capacity shows signs of strain, according to new data from financial analytics firm FICO.
FICO’s Q2 2025 Canada Bankcard Industry Benchmarking Trends report shows average new account limits for monoline credit cards — issued by companies that do not offer other banking services and often used by younger borrowers or those with limited banking relationships and little credit history — jumped 20 per cent since mid-2023.
