Tools in the Trades Boot Camp

Support Ontario Youth is hosting events all over Ontario to encourage Youth in Skilled Trades. The events are designed to expose pre-screened candidates to different aspects of the trades to enhance their potential for employment and success in the skilled trades. We know there are going to be significant shortfalls in key trades over the next decade, and we are trying to do our part in guiding the participants towards a career in the skilled trades. We give them hands-on training, employability skills, and $250 in free tools to take home. The areas we focus on currently are Motive Power, Electrical, Millwright and Plumbing, and we are adding more trades in the future!

We look for employer partners to attend the mid-day lunch networking opportunity, which requires approximately an hour or two of their time. Employers that attended previous events have given us positive feedback and have found great value in it. More information can be found on our website at www.supportontarioyouth.ca/tools-in-trade or this short video – https://youtu.be/UNKcXMbIxNs.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 at 4536 Portage Road, Niagara Falls from 11:30am to 1:30pm and focusses on the Electrical and Plumbing Trades.

Although these events are trade-specific, we do often have employers attend that are hiring for entry level positions (for example,  labourers or shop hands), as our goal is employment in the Skilled Trades, regardless of the sector.
