Stockings of Love Returns for its 8th Holiday Season, Expands Across Niagara
Following its recognition with the 2023 Niagara Impact Award, the Stockings of Love campaign is back for its eighth year—bigger than ever and now expanding across the Niagara region. Running from November 24 to December 21, 2025, the campaign collects holiday stockings filled with practical and thoughtful items for seniors in long-term care homes and those living alone.
Founded in 2018 by Port Dalhousie resident Janice Ford Spencer, Stockings of Love was created to bring joy to what she calls “the forgotten ones” during the holidays. What began as a small grassroots effort has grown rapidly, delivering 3,000 stockings in 2024 with community support increasing year after year.
This year, the initiative is expanding with new chapters in Grimsby and Beamsville, aiming to reach more isolated seniors than ever before.
With Ford Spencer nearing retirement, Patricia Tudor will take the lead alongside a dedicated team of volunteer “Elves,” who help spread the word, collect donations, shop, assemble, and deliver the stockings.
Community members can donate pre-filled stockings or contribute financially to support the purchase of stocking stuffers for those unable to shop. E-transfers can be sent to: [email protected].
A stocking costs about $25 to fill—but the joy it brings to a senior during the holidays is priceless.
